Joaquim Ramalho é um especialista na análise econométrica de dados microeconómicos. Desenvolveu e aplicou uma variedade de novos modelos e instrumentos microeconométricos na área da Economia e áreas afins. Tem publicado o seu trabalho teórico nas principais revistas de econometria e estatística, incluindo Journal of Econometrics, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Econometric Reviews e Computational Statistics and Data Analysis, e o seu trabalho empírico nas principais revistas de economia, negócios e finanças, como International Journal of Industrial Organization, Energy Economics, Journal of Business Venturing, International Small Business Journal e Quantitative Finance.
